Educational Background and Work

Senthil Kumar took a job at Samsung after completing his engineering. For his work, he traveled extensively. Also, he got selected by the Government of India as one of the technological explorers. This gave him many opportunities to meet leading professionals and deliver sessions on technology in different parts of the country.

Decision to Leave Job and Return to Madurai

While traveling, he came across many people from his hometown – Madurai. A lot of them were doing well in life, but no one was willing to go back to their hometown and work. The only limitation, according to all of them, was that Madurai wasn’t technologically developed.

Senthil always wanted to go back to his hometown. He wanted to do something for the betterment of the people living there. He returned and started working for the betterment of society.

Challenges Faced by Senthil Kumar

Senthil wanted to bring companies to Madurai to attract huge technological investments. Most of the youth moved to other cities for higher education or in search of jobs. Hence, no company was willing to invest in Madurai.

Idea of Women Empowerment

Senthil decided to educate women in technology. Senthil knew women are talented. But because of family constraints and responsibilities, many are not able to do anything tangible with their lives. He decided to channel the talent of the married women.

Technological Skill Development

With the help of his sister, Senthil decided to train women in technological skills like building apps and websites. He organized a competition and invited applications.

Initially, he faced difficulty convincing the women to take part in the initiative, but Senthil did not give up. He convinced them, and over 200 women took part in the competition. The top ten teams in the last round of the competition were the ones trained by Senthil. Women also got a chance to do something productive in their lives.

Antenatal Health Device for Pregnant Women

He also created an antenatal health device for pregnant women. The device records all the crucial information related to pregnant women and sends it to the doctor. It track’s a pregnant women’s day-to-day activities like sleep pattern, nutrition intake, calories burnt, numbers of steps walked in a day, etc. It also reminds women to take medicines on time, sleep on time, eat on time, etc.

Senthil made the device for his pregnant sister. The hospitals were not nearby, and traveling long distances every day wasn’t workable. The other women in Madurai were facing similar problems. The app came as a solution to the problem of all pregnant women of Madurai.

App for Security Purpose

Senthil Kumar also decided to tackle the security problem in Madurai. He developed a GPS-based app that provides safety against crimes like burglary by sending alerts to the police. He came up with the solution of chain snatching as well.

Hard Work Pays Off

The security application created by Senthil Kumar caught the attention of the Chief Minister. He decided to use the application for the entire Tamil Nadu. Eventually, big companies like Zoho and HCL appreciated the work by Senthil and are willing to invest in Madurai. Senthil is actively working in areas of women’s empowerment and to make Madurai technologically advanced.

  Education is a necessity to lead a life of dignity. Every individual has a right to education. Because of a lack of facilities, many girls do not get access to proper schooling. The quote that “where there is a will, there is a way” is suitable for the current story. A US-based non-profit organization CITTA has built a Rajkumari Ratnavati Girls school in the middle of the dusty Thar desert. It is a place that will empower and educate young girls and women in Rajasthan’s rural areas. Rajkumari Ratnavati – Architecture of the School The founder of CITTA, Michael Daube, hired US-based architect Diana Kellogg to design the school. Diana traveled to the state in 2014 and built the school by only incorporating ideas from the Indian culture. She gave the school an oval shape after observing that many households in Rajasthan had a courtyard in between the house. In many cultures, the oval shape symbolizes womanhood. The oval shape also naturally filters the sand and keeps the sun’s rays out.
